Answer: A crossgrade is a marketing method which manufacturers use to get users of other software companies to transfer to theirs. In this case, Avid want you to use their software instead.

What is a Sibelius Upgrade?

Answer: A Sibelius upgrade simply allows you to upgrade from an older version of Sibelius to the latest version. The upgrade process usually replaces most of the files you already have on your computer. Remember to save all of your scores because you’ll be able to import them into your new version.

PC and Mac
Sibelius’s network licenses operate on a client-server model. The Sibelius program is installed on the local hard drive of each of the client workstations, and a separate License Server program is installed on a single designated server or workstation. The License Server code is supplied with your copy of Sibelius media Pack and enables the designated number of licensed client copies to run on the network simultaneously. In conjunction with Sibelius’s Classroom Control feature, the License Server also lets you send messages to users of the client copies, send and receive Sibelius files between client machines, and close copies down from the server machine.

Client Workstation recommended minimum requirements:
Windows: Windows 7 64-bit (SP1 or later), Windows 8.1 (not Windows RT) or Windows 10, 1+ GB RAM, 1 GB hard drive space, internet connection for digital download.
Mac: Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks), 10.10 (Yosemite) or 10.11 (El Capitan) or later, 1+ GB RAM, 1 GB hard disk space, Note: you will need an additional 36GB of hard drive space and 4+GB of RAM if you wish to install ‘Sibelius Sounds Library’ (high quality sounds) which comes with Sibelius 8 perpetual licenses.
•    Sibelius requires a network using the TCP/IP and UDP protocols. (Your network may use other protocols in addition to TCP/IP and UDP, but TCP/IP and UDP must be present in order for the License Server to communicate fully with the client copies.)
•    The Sibelius License Server and the License Server Control Panel will run on Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Mac OS X 10.9 and later. It will also run on a virtual server running VMWare using a qualified Windows operating system.

If you’re a student, teacher, or faculty member at a qualified academic institution, you can purchase Avid Academic products at a substantial discount as long as you meet one of the following eligibility requirements and can provide proof of eligibility:

Individuals qualified to buy individual Academic versions of Sibelius, Pro Tools, and/or Media Composer:

  • University/college students—Students enrolled at a higher education institution defined as an accredited, government-recognized public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational college) that grants degrees and/or certificates1

  • Faculty and staff—Teachers and staff employed by an accredited, government-recognized public or private primary or secondary school, local education authority, or public or private university or college, for-profit career/vocational schools that grant degrees and/or certificates, and schools for instrumental instruction/tuition

  • Homeschool teachers—Teachers as defined by local homeschooling regulations detailed at http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp

Individuals qualified to buy individual Academic versions of Sibelius only (but not Pro Tools or Media Composer):

  • UK Secondary school students—Students enrolled at an accredited, government-recognized public or private secondary school providing full-time instruction1

  • UK Homeschooled secondary students —Secondary students schooled at home, as defined by local regulations detailed at http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp

Individuals qualified to buy multiple Academic versions of Media Composer only* (but not multiple copies of Pro Tools or Sibelius):

  • UK Institutions—Teachers and staff purchasing Avid academic products for institutional use, instead of personal use. Users must be employed by an accredited, government-recognized public or private primary or secondary school, local education authority, or public or private university or college, for-profit career/vocational schools that grant degrees and/or certificates, and schools for instrumental instruction/tuition

Students and educators who wish to purchase individual Academic versions and receive student discount for Sibelius, Pro Tools, and/or Media Composer at a low discount price will be asked to provide proof of eligibility after making a purchase (see below). Once your eligibility has been verified, you will receive your academic license for your software.   • A copy of a UK student ID card containing the student’s name, school name, and the current academic term

  • A copy of a tuition statement or course bill that includes the school’s logo or seal, student name, and the current date/academic term.

  • An official letter from the registrar of the school, including student name, the school name, and the current date/academic term.

  • A copy of a student schedule including student name, the school name, and the current date/academic term

  • A copy of a grade report statement or transcript including student name, the school name, and the current date/academic term

  • Screen captures from school websites may be accepted in lieu of official documentation if your name, school name, and valid date are clearly visible (acceptance is at the sole discretion of Avid)

Teachers, faculty, and staff— You must show evidence of current employment at a government-recognized public or private primary or secondary school, local education authority, public or private university or college, for-profit career/vocational school that grants degrees and/or certificates, or school for instrumental instruction/tuition by providing one of the following:

  • A copy of a faculty or staff paycheck stub that includes employee name and employer (school) name

  • An employer’s written confirmation on school letterhead or certificate of employment

Institutions—Anyone purchasing an Institution license of Media Composer | Software on behalf of an Education Institution may be required to provide proof of eligibility. You must show evidence of current employment at a government-recognized public or private primary or secondary school, local education authority, public or private university or college, for-profit career/vocational school that grants degrees and/or certificates, or school for instrumental instruction/tuition by providing one of the following:

  • A valid email address issued by your institution (i.e., faculty@university.edu)

  • Written confirmation on school letterhead naming the school and the individual completing the verification.

Note: This applies to Media Composer | Software for Education Institutions only at this time.

Secondary students—must show evidence of current enrollment at an accredited, government-recognized public or private secondary school by providing one of the following:

  • A copy of a student ID card containing your (the student’s) name, school name, and the current academic year

  • A copy of a report card, a tuition statement, or a letter from the school administration that confirms your enrollment status (all documentation must contain the school, district, or local authority name, your name, and a date reflecting the current academic year)

UK Homeschool teachers or students—You must show evidence of status as a homeschool teacher  by providing one of the following:

  • A current copy of a Homeschool Membership Association card

  • A current copy of a curriculum receipt

  • Any official documentation issued by the local/state government that recognizes your family’s intent to homeschool

Available Academic purchases for individuals

Eligible students and educators may purchase individual “Academic Student” or “Academic Teacher” versions of our software at significant discounts from SOFTPLANET LTD – We are official AVID resellers. Students and educators must provide proof of eligibility (as outlined above) to receive a serial number for their Academic product.

Available Academic purchases for institutions (multi-seat licenses)

Eligible academic institutions may purchase multi-seat licenses for Sibelius, Pro Tools, and/or Media Composer. In some cases volume discounts may apply. Restrictions
